Description

Can historical heritage and contemporary art be harmoniously united? That’s the daring challenge The Durbuy History and Art Museum is taking on. Take a trip through the works of Marcel Lucas, the city’s history, and some temporary exhibitions which are sure to enthral curious passers-by and enthusiasts alike!

The DHAM’s motto is, “Yesterday’s history and today’s art”, and it’s a truly spectacular combination. The location alone is well worth the detour. The museum is actually found within the heart of Durbuy’s Halle aux Blés, a listed building which dates back to the 16th century. This ancient covered market is one of the rare public buildings in Wallonia made from timber framing. It was originally twice as big as it is today, though the building is still just as remarkable. The beautiful backdrop of the Halle aux Blés is now host to a range of contemporary art for you to discover in both temporary and permanent exhibitions.

A world of perspectives

Everyone knows how to draw! They just need to learn how to look!” That’s how the great watercolourist Marcel Lucas summed up how he saw the world around him. A world of colour and fantasy, sometimes inspired by Baroque architecture, and sometimes by tricks of the light. Discover creative, endlessly surprising, and emotionally expressive works as they take you down unexpected but oh-so-inspiring paths! Enter a world of ever-changing perspectives.
