In the centre of Arlon, set in a magnificent 19th-century building, you will discover a marvellous artistic universe that revolves entirely around the Gaspar brothers: Jean, the renowned sculptor, and Charles, esteemed photographer and patron of the arts.
As a sculptor, Jean is best known for his impressive, realistic animal sculptures, many of which adorn the rooms of this very museum. Given his virtuosity, you won't be surprised to learn that he studied under the great Jef Lambeaux. Charles was one of the early members of the pictorialist photography movement, which turned photography into an art form in its own right. His displayed works will make you understand why.
Another section of the museum is devoted entirely to religious art, with valuable pieces from the Orval Abbey, as well as churches and chapels in the Arlon region. The crowning masterpiece is the famous Fisenne altarpiece, a prime example of the splendour that made the 16th-century Antwerp school so renowned.
The collection is regularly complemented by temporary exhibitions that take inspiration from the Ardennes.
During your visit, you will be given a tablet to help guide you throughout your visit (available in four languages). As for the little ones, they certainly won't be bored for a minute either, with the educational service even that offers creative activities in the museum's galleries. Plus, after visiting the museum, they are free to run around in the adjoining park and playground!
